Decree-Law No. 12/2010, of 26 August, created the National Defense Institute (IDN), defined its structure and responsibilities, as well as the powers of its bodies (article 1).
The IDN is a body supervised by the member of the Government with competence in Defense matters, which is responsible for the study, research and teaching of National Defense matters (article 2).
The IDN is integrated into the Indirect State Administration, under the terms of article 10 of Decree-Law 12/2006 of 26 July, and enjoys administrative, financial and patrimonial autonomy (article 3).
